JOB SUMMARY: H109
Responsible for performing skilled welding work in the repair, modification, and fabrication of metal and steel structures and equipment within the sanitation department. This includes welding new panels on garbage truck bodies, roll-off garbage bins, and repair of garbage compactors with hydraulic rams and lines, as well as welding on heavy on-road and off-road equipment. Work is conducted independently under the guidance of supervisory staff and may be required both at the main location and off-site.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Weld new panels on garbage truck bodies, roll-off garbage bins, and heavy on-road and off-road equipment.

Repair and maintenance of garbage compactors including hydraulic rams and lines.

Perform welding tasks using various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.).

Fabricate and assemble new metal structures and equipment.

Inspect and test welds and equipment for functionality and safety.

Conduct welding and repairs both at the main facility and off-site locations as required.

Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the workshop area.

Assist in inventory management of welding supplies and equipment.

Any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. (Educational documentation will be requested upon offer of employment.)

One (1) year of experience in welding, including experience with heavy-duty equipment.

Licenses and Certifications:
Certification in welding (e.g., AWS Certified Welder) is desired.

Possession of valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver’s License within 1 year of employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

Ability to lift and move heavy objects and work in various positions.

Exposure to hazardous materials, high temperatures, and loud noise.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Supplemental Information

Knowledge of safety standards and procedures related to welding.

Knowledge of metal properties and other materials.

Skill in using welding and fabricating tools.

Proficiency in various welding techniques.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design sketches.

Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols.
