CLASSIFICATION: Welder, Apprentice; CBA Rate $18.78/Hr

GRADE: Non-Exempt; Regular Full-time

LOCATION: Range Services / Eglin AFB, FL – On Site

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The apprentice welder applies accepted trade methods to weld commonly used metals and alloys as well as recently developed or experimental metals and alloys with welding properties that are not fully known. The apprentice welder routinely welds using accepted procedures and will call on to recommend the most suitable metals and alloys for new or prototype applications under the instruction of journeyman welders. Apprentices will learn to apply in-depth knowledge of welding principles and must demonstrate the skill to meet requirements. When welding with experimental base metals, electrodes, filler metals, fluxes, and shielding, the apprentice will learn to consider elements such as arc stability, degree of penetration, surface tension, and viscosity of the flux and shielding slag to determine adequacy of the welding performance. Apprentices must ultimately be able to demonstrate their manual skill and level of concentrated attention for prolonged periods of time to weld piping systems and pressure vessels, such as boilers, that must meet critical requirements.

GENERAL DUTIES: The apprentice Welder performs non-supervisory work welding metals and alloys. The job requires knowledge of electric, gas, and other welding processes such as arc gouging and the skill to apply these processes in prototype manufacturing, repairing, modifying, rebuilding, and assembling various types of metal and alloy parts, equipment, systems, and structures such as buildings and targets acquired through on the job training.

OTHER DUTIES: Apprentices will be assigned to perform additional duties and responsibilities by the supervisor as necessary to support contract/mission support requirements in job-related areas.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 
Must be a high school graduate currently enrolled in an accredited welding school or must enroll in an accepted vocational or trade school welding program within 180 days of hire. Work tasks will comply with registered apprentice on the job training goals and personal performance will be monitored quarterly by an apprenticeship panel.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Secret security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a secret Security clearance. May also be required to handle hazardous material and/or collect hazardous waste. May be required to have a Class “A” CDL. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: May be required to work inside and outside under conditions exposed to dust and extreme temperatures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical effort requires crawling, bending, stooping, standing, and working in various awkward positions, climbing tall structures, and working at heights for extended periods of time. Company-provided personal protective equipment must be worn. Must be capable of lifting or shifting heavy items to complete work.
